Dry Tortugas National Park
Lady Grace had the pleasure of taking guests to the Dry Tortugas National Park over the last few weeks. Being aboard Lady Grace allows guests to enjoy the Dry Tortugas at our own pace. No time constraints, no cares about your day boat or plane leaving, and at night amazing night skies. While a day tour boat does allow access to the Dry Tortugas for others, our guests enjoy the pristine waters that are largely untouched by humans during our cruising time without having to struggle with other guest for comfortable seats, perfect views, or wait in lines for drinks or food. With the beautiful accommodations, an attentive crew and amazing amenities aboard Lady Grace, a trip to the Dry Tortugas will be one of luxury.
The Dry Tortugas National Park is 99% water and only 1% land, so exploration of this National Park is truly a boat lovers dream. At Fort Jefferson guests can take the Park Rangers tour before exploring on their own, making it a once in a lifetime experience to explore this historical fort without being rushed. Our time on the island can also be adjusted to before or after the day tours which gives our guest the opportunity to explore the island and Fort Jefferson without a large amount of other guests on the island.
Much to our delight dogs are allowed on the beaches of Fort Jefferson. In our recent trip we had two k-9’s aboard, and both Hannah and Itty Bitty were able to go for walks around the Fort. Hannah especially showed an interest in the local wildlife.
Pets are not allowed inside the Fort.
One of the often-missed areas of Dry Tortugas is Loggerhead Lighthouse due to needing your own boat transportation to get there. Although currently closed for repairs, the island itself can still be explored. The Loggerhead Island is the largest island in the Dry Tortugas with 49 acres of land. The Lighthouse society has a wonderful history of Loggerhead lighthouse. She is a beautiful lighthouse even from afar.
With no set schedule Lady Grace can provide you an opportunity to snorkel or dive in these protected waters. Dry Tortugas received its name due to sea turtles that where commonly found swimming and nesting in this area, and are still seen today in its waters. Several amazing snorkel and diving areas are found in the Dry Tortugas National Park including “Little Africa” one of the larger coral reefs found just off Loggerhead Island.
If you are a bird lover, Dry Tortugas is also an amazing place to keep an eye out for a wide range of species that are rarely seen elsewhere such as the frigatebird or the sooty tern.
Spring migration is especially an amazing time to see the frigatebird. Dry Tortugas is the only location in the United States that the frigatebird come to nest. Nearly 300 hundred species of birds that have been seen throughout the park. Binoculars are aboard Lady Grace to help our guests find our beautiful bird friends.
